Social Science - AS - 882 - Can be Completed Online

Purpose: The Social Science AS degree program is designed for students who plan to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in social science at a four-year college or university. Students who complete this program of study may be eligible to earn junior-class standing at a four-year college or university and will have completed courses that generally serve as prerequisites for advanced undergraduate coursework in social sciences.  

Advising Note: Students should meet with an academic advisor to select Social Science and transfer electives that are appropriate for their advising pathway and intended transfer college. 

Admissions Requirements:  All students must demonstrate college readiness through transcript review or informed self-placement.  Based on this review, students may request or be required to enroll in prerequisite or corequisite math and/or English Courses.

Choose one Mathematics Course (Please consult your advisor to choose your Math Course)

Computer Competency or UCGS Course (3cr)


Social and Behavioral Science Electives (9cr)


Choose three (3) social science transfer elective courses from the following:

  • ADJ - Administration of Justice (Criminal Justice Pathway Students Only)
  • ECO - Economics
  • GEO - Geography
  • HIS - History
  • PLS - Political Science
  • PSY - Psychology
  • SOC - Sociology

Students should consult an Advisor to discuss transfer institution requirements

Transfer Electives and Prerequisites (19)


Students must complete 60 credit hours to complete the degree

Students graduating from this program must demonstrate proficiency in computer competencies necessary for academic success, transfer, and employment.  Individual programs may specify how computer competency is attained as part of the program.  If not specified otherwise, computer competency is demonstrated by passing ITE 152 (transfer elective) or an equivalent competency test. Students are encouraged not to wait until the final semester to complete this requirement.   

Students graduating from this program may be called upon to participate in a general education outcomes assessment during their last semester.
