Purpose: The Liberal Arts program is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a baccalaureate degree, usually the Bachelor of Arts degree, in the liberal arts or social sciences. Students are urged to acquaint themselves with the requirements of the major department in planning their programs. Students should select this curriculum if they intend to major in one of the following disciplines: Economics, English, Foreign Language, Pre-Law, History, Humanities, Journalism, Library Science, Literature, Philosophy, Political Science, Government, Religion, or Sociology.

Admission Requirements: All students will be required to demonstrate college readiness through transcript review or informed self-placement.  Based on this review students may request or be required to enroll in prerequisite or corequisite math and/or English courses.

Liberal Arts Curriculum Degree Requirements:

Student Development (1cr)

Written Communication (6cr)

Art, Humanities & Literature (6cr)

Choose any two courses (6cr) from the options below - selections must be from two different categories

Social & Behavioral Sciences (3cr)

Choose one UCGS Social and Behavioral Sciences Course

History (3cr)

Choose any UCGS History from the courses below

Lab Sciences (8cr)

  • Complete two lab sciences or any two-semester sequence in BIO, CHM, GOL, GIS, ENV or PHY

Mathematics (3cr)

Please consult an advisor to choose your Math Course

Communication (3cr)

Computer Competency, Foreign Language, and Transfer Elective(s) (27cr)

  • ITE 152: Introduction to Digital and Information Literacy and Computer Applications   
  • Students must complete through 202 in a foreign language. Those who have completed Foreign language in high school may take an assessment test to begin foreign language study at a level beyond 101. See advisor for additional information.
  • Students who do not require the full two years of a foreign language must substitute transfer elective courses for the remaining credits.

Total Minimum Credits: 60

Students graduating from this program must demonstrate proficiency in specific computer competencies necessary for academic success, transfer, and employment.  Individual programs may specify how computer competency is attained as part of the program.  If not specified otherwise, computer competency is demonstrated by passing ITE 152 (transfer elective) or an equivalent competency test. Students are encouraged not to wait until the final semester to complete this requirement.

Students graduating from this program may be called upon to participate in a general education outcomes assessment during their last semester.
