Information Systems Technology AAS, IST Major, Information Management Major, Cloud Computing Major- Can Be Completed Online

Purpose: The Information Systems Technology AAS, IST Major, Information Management Major, or Cloud Computing Major curriculum has been designed to prepare students for employment in the information and computer technology fields. The Cloud Computing specialization is designed for those who seek employment in the field of cloud computing, for those who are presently in that field and who desire to increase their knowledge and update their skills, and for those who must augment their abilities in other fields with knowledge and skills in cloud computing.

This program of study provides students with the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities identified in the National Initiative on Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Workforce Framework 2.0.

Occupational Objectives: Web Page Designer and JAVA Programming, Network Security Technician, Database Administrator, Systems Analyst, Business (E-commerce) Application Specialist.  The Cloud Computing occupational objectives include: Customer Support Specialist, Entry Level Cloud Engineer, Software Support Technician, Associate Systems Engineer

Admission Requirements: All students will be required to demonstrate college readiness through transcript review or informed self-placement.  Based on this review students may request or be required to enroll in prerequisite or corequisite math and/or English courses.

Program Requirements: The curriculum includes required technical courses in information systems and general education courses. Instruction includes theoretical concepts along with hands-on experience required to master the skills needed for successful preparation for employment. Students are urged to consult with a curriculum advisor in planning the program and selecting areas for concentrated study. Technical/computer classes over five years old cannot be used as transfer credits. In addition, students who have been readmitted into the college must have computer courses that are over five years old re-evaluated.

Students should select a total of 15 credit hours of IT electives, not already included in the degree, through any combination of IT courses (ITD, ITE, ITN, or ITP)

Students Wishing to Transfer Credits: Associate of Applied Science in Information Systems Technology is not designed to be a transfer program. Students may, however, substitute some classes to aid in transfer. Students should check with the college to which they plan to transfer for classes that are accepted by that institution.

1 Students considering transfer should check with anticipated four-year institution to determine appropriate MTH courses and/or sequences.

Students graduating from this program may be called upon to participate in a general education outcomes assessment during their last semester.
