Liberal Arts, AA&S- Can Be Completed Online

Purpose: The Liberal Arts program is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a baccalaureate degree, usually the Bachelor of Arts degree, in the liberal arts or social sciences. Students are urged to acquaint themselves with the requirements of the major department in planning their programs. Students should select this curriculum if they intend to major in one of the following disciplines: Economics, English, Foreign Language, Pre-Law, History, Humanities, Journalism, Library Science, Literature, Philosophy, Political Science, Government, Religion, or Sociology.

Admission Requirements: All students will be required to demonstrate college readiness through transcript review or informed self-placement.  Based on this review students may request or be required to enroll in prerequisite or corequisite math and/or English courses.

Liberal Arts Curriculum Degree Requirements:

  • Any two HIS courses

Humanities (6cr)


Two Courses - Choose one from each category below: 

Social Sciences (6cr)


  • Choose any two Social Science courses (6cr) from  ECO2, GEO, HIS, PLS, PSY3, SOC

Lab Sciences (8cr)


  • Complete two lab sciences or any two-semester sequence in BIO, CHM, CSC, GOL, GIS, ENV or PHY

ITE115 and Transfer Elective(s) (15cr)


  • ITE 115  and/or any course which has been approved as a transfer elective3

Program requirements


Students must complete through 202 in a foreign language. Those who have successfully completed Foreign language in high school may take a CLEP test in order to begin foreign language study at a level beyond 101. See advisor for additional information. Students who do not require the full two years of a foreign language must substitute transfer elective courses for the remaining credits.

Total Minimum Credits: 60


Note: BIO 141  and BIO 142  do not meet the science requirement

Students graduating from this program must demonstrate proficiency in specific computer competencies necessary for academic success, transfer, and employment.  Individual programs may specify how computer competency is attained as part of the program.  If not specified otherwise, computer competency is demonstrated by passing ITE 115 (transfer elective) or an equivalent competency test. Students are encouraged not to wait until the final semester to complete this requirement

1 Students should check with institutions to which they are considering transferring to determine appropriate MTH courses and/or sequences.

2 ECO 120  and ECO 201 -ECO 202  contain similar course content. Students who take ECO 120  cannot receive credit for either ECO 201  or ECO 202  . Students who take either ECO 201  or ECO 202  cannot receive credit for ECO 120 .

Students graduating from this program may be called upon to participate in a general education outcomes assessment during their last semester.
